Background
We originated in the East Midlands as SHG in 1989 at a time when the recruitment market was saturated with fast moving telesales operations. The opportunity was there to build a different type of business. It seemed simple - provide an individual service for clients who prefer an individual solution.

It was a bold move and built on a straightforward premise: to match candidates’ needs to clients’ requirements. As the company developed, the founding principles remained the same.

In January 2006 three of the original directors organised a management buy-out. The company, which became known as SHG Opportunity Management, built on past success and developed a team of like-minded people – well motivated and able to adopt an alternative approach. The emphasis was – and still is – based firmly on communication, creativity and commitment.

Ready to expand further, the new company – Optus Consulting – was formed in 2008 following the merger between SHG and Marque Executive Consulting.

SHG had already developed a highly regarded range of contract and interim recruitment services particularly in the automotive, engineering and manufacturing sectors, whilst Marque had a strong reputation for senior and middle management search and selection.

It was a perfect fit – the chance to offer companies and candidates a complete, well-rounded and co-ordinated recruitment solution.
